What types of fillings are used and when?
Compomers - and Composite Fillings
Compomer fillings may be used, which are advanced, white materials that are harmless to the body and release enamel hardening minerals to strengthen the tooth. Composite fillings are often utilized to help a primary tooth last longer.
Pediatric crowns are used if the baby teeth are already so damaged by caries
that normal fillings are no longer possible. In the lateral dental area the crowns are constructed from medical stainless steel and cover the tooth completely. These crowns are accepted by children, are extremely durable, and protect the damaged tooth from further destruction.
Amalgam fillings are generally not recommended and therefore are not used at Zehm Dental Suisse.
